Antonio Testolin

Antonio's background as both an artist and teacher, provides a perfect blend of senses for the movement of bodies through both time and space, and how to communicate this effectively. His lessons successfully combine the technical analysis of movement and the sensory interpretation of music.  As an artist he approaches tango as more of art form that that is filled with expression and loves the challenge to teach all his students how to express their own creativity.  His world tango experiences in Canada, France, Spain, Italy and several trips to Buenos Aries, offers students a rich learning experience.

The goal of Tangobasico is to help grow the Argentine Tango community in Madison, WI, and to create a friendly environment for dancers of all levels. Two guys who obviously love Argentine tango. But more importantly, they love sharing what they know of this dance and watching you learn!

We approach tango instruction by focusing on the fundamental principles of connection, structure, and expression.

CONNECTION, since the connection between partners is one of the most desirable elements of the dance, we teach you how to be aware of, and how to understand your partner's physical presence. The act of physically communicating with your partner is what enables one to truly dance tango.

STRUCTURE is the fundamental technique that adds beauty to tango, and is a principle that can be symbolized by the golden rectangle (for all you math fans out there, hence our cool logo!). A design of mathematical beauty utilized by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, it engenders a feeling of both natural, organic order and structural discipline.

Here, you'll learn the basic concepts of leading and following (the organic elements), and how to apply them towards advanced patterns and elements (structural discipline).

EXPRESSION is about incorporating the creative, the sensual, and the passionate within this improvisational dance. One of our highest goals is helping you develop this skill while being inspired by the music!

We present these 3 principles as tools that allow you the freedom to express yourself and develop your passion for the dance. And as it is with the golden rectangle, the basic, disciplined elements of tango, combined with their purpose of creative expression, leads to the beauty and harmony of two individuals in perfect communication with one another.
